After Frans Postma’s spatial
qualities research with regard to Mondrian’s studio at the Rue
du Départ in Paris, the idea originated to make a full size
scale model of the famous studio for the `Mondrian year` (1994,
50 years after his date of death). The studio would be the
centre of attention at a major STIJL exhibition, in which the
artistic discrepancies between Theo van Doesburg and Piet
Mondriaan were to be the main focus of attention. Because there
were a lot of activities that had to be organized, the STAM
foundation was set up: “STichting reconstructie Atelier
Mondriaan” (Foundation Reconstruction Mondrian's studio). The
exhibition was called: “Mondrian’s studio, the subtitle was:
“Earthly Paradise” and was organized in the Beurs van Berlage in
Amsterdam, in the great goods exchange hall. The foundation found
a committee of recommendation consisting of: Carel Blotkamp,
Yve-Alain Bois, Joop Joosten and Nancy Troy. After the Amsterdam
exhibition, STAM enthusiastically kept promoting the
architectonic qualities of Piet Mondriaan worldwide.
